Skyline Propane Users Group (SPUG) was formed as a benefit to SSA members. SPUG
members are entitled to a specially arranged discount for propane from Amerigas,
Kamps Propane and Suburban Propane. Watch this space for monthly updates on the SPUG propane prices.
NOTICE:
In May 2008, Jeff Gamache, Amerigas Market Manager, notified SSA that the SPUG price will no longer be offered through the Scotts Valley Amerigas. The cost basis for Scotts Valley Amerigas is different from the San Jose Amerigas. Propane comes from a refinery in the East Bay. Fuel, freight, and overhead costs are much greater for Scotts Valley. As a result Scotts Valley will no longer offer SPUG prices, but the price will only be about $.40-50/gallon above SPUG.
For SSA members served by the San Jose yard, Amerigas honors the SPUG price.
When SSA members who were served by the Scotts Valley Amerigas were cut off from the SPUG benefit, SSA entered into an agreement with Kamps Propane to regain the propane benefit for those who were dropped, and as well as any SSA member who chooses to switch.
Kamps Propane offers a monitoring system to insure that you will never run out of propane. One device will be attached to your tank, and the other device will be attached to your phone. The connection between the two devices is wireless. During the night, say 3-4 AM, your phone will send a message to Kamps Propane reporting on the level of propane in your tank. Kamps Propane offers tank rentals that match the Amerigas agreement. Contact Kamps Propane at 1-800-795-4GAS to set up the switch-over.
Suburban Propane (650-879-0115) offers SSA members a special association
price. This includes new pigtail, and regulator, and a complete safety inspection.

Prices are subject to change as frequently as
wholesale prices change, which can be daily. Reported here are prices for the
first week of the month. We do not track the interim fluctuations. High prices for the year are highlighted.
- "propane season" is July of one year
thru June of the next -
The highest SPUG price for this season was $2.40/gallon in February. Ouch!!! Prices have since dropped. This must
mean that it's spring (or autumn?).
Current SPUG price as of the first Friday of September, 2010 is still $1.86.
Widely predicted price-spikes because of the Gulf oil leak never came to pass.
Not shown in the charts because it came in the second week
of January was a brief period when the SPUG price reached $2.55 (January 15,
2010). The graph below shows SPUG price history back to 1998.
